Discussing Poverty over Steaks? Orlando Bloom in Nepal
UNICEF certainly received attention when hollywood star, Orlando Bloom, was among Nepal’s poorest kids.
Question: How much money and resource did UNICEF waste for the English actor’s presence and media exposure – for the expensive fuel of his private jet, his time that produces billion dollar movies, his security, food, hotel, media exposure, vaccination, translators, sunblock, etc, etc, etc…
Bloom has homes in London and Los Angeles, the two most expensive cities in the world, and who knows where else.
The quarry worker (in the youtube video) on the river bank in the video cares less. She could perhaps live a lifetime on what Bloom spends or earns in a day.
Perhaps Bloom said:
“Excuse me, friends, I must catch my jet –
I’m off to join the Development Set;
My bags are packed; and I’ve had all my shots,
I have travellers’ cheques and pills for trots…We discuss malnutrition over steaks
And plan hunger talks during coffee breaks.
Whether Asian floods or African drought,
We face each issue with an open mouth…Development Set homes are extremely chic,
Full of carvings, curious and draped batik,
Eye-level photographs subtly assure
That your host is at home with the rich and poor…–Ross Coggins
